Student Spotlight: Rosenni Turno Caboverde

Student Spotlight: Rosenni Turno Caboverde on why the sky is the limit.

Growing up in the Philippines in poverty, Rosenni Turno Caboverde could not have imagined her life and opportunities today in the United States. One of seven children, Rosenni often has no access to electricity and food was scarce.

As an adult, she traveled to several countries to work as a nanny, including Taiwan, Qatar, Hong Kong, and Canada. She came to the U.S. in 2021 with a vision to work in healthcare. She turned to the York Literacy Institute to begin her journey by taking HiSET classes to obtain her high school equivalency diploma.

In addition to taking High School Equivalency and Math classes, she took the Healthcare Pathways course through the York Literacy Institute at York County School of Technology. Juggling her schedule was not easy as Rosenni also worked early mornings and had a family to tend to while taking classes.

Students taking HiSET classes at the York Literacy Institute also have access to free tutoring, paid test fees, classrooms, and materials to use in school.

After completing her HiSET classes, Rosenni began working as a nursing aid and wants to become a registered nurse.
