Buck A Book® Reading Program Celebrates A Successful Year

The Buck A Book® Reading Program celebrated another successful year at the York Revolution game on Saturday, June 22.

More than 100 students and their families took to the field, along with sponsors and mascots of the program.

In January, over 1,400 students read 8,800 books and raised $87,000 to support adult literacy programs in York County. Digger Dog, mascot of Presenting Sponsor Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, and Andy Armadillo of sponsor Texas Roadhouse, were there to lead the crowd onto the field prior to the start of the York Revolution baseball game.

The top two student fundraisers also had the opportunity to throw out a ceremonial first pitch before the game. Two additional students were surprised with a new bicycle during pregame ceremonies as the lucky winners drawn from all participants.

Additional sponsors of this year’s program included Central PA Advisors, LLC, Doceo, Flinchbaugh’s Orchard & Farm Market, Glo Fiber, Hickory Falls Family Entertainment Center, McDonald’s, Sesame Personnel, Sheetz, Stauffer’s Cookies/Meiji, Turkey Hill Experience, York County Christmas Magic, The York Ice Arena, and the York Revolution.

Participating school districts included Central York, Dallastown, Dover, Eastern York, Hanover, Northeastern, Red Lion, South Eastern, South Western, Spring Grove, West York, York City, Holy Trinity Catholic School, and Orendorff Early Learning Center.

York Literacy Institute wishes to thank the students and their families, the schools, teachers, and our sponsors for supporting the Buck A Book® Reading Program 2024.
