The Literacy Empowerment Campaign (LEC) is York Literacy Institute’s (YLI) annual fundraising campaign. It provides for immediate needs such as operational and program costs to maintain literacy services that are not otherwise sponsored by foundation, endowment, or grant funding.
Previously held each spring, the LEC now anchors our fall fundraising efforts.
Since 2008, York Literacy Institute’s LEC has raised almost $1 million toward the critical mission of supporting adult learners gaining literacy skills. This year’s goal is to raise $70,000 toward equipping adult learners in York County with the foundational training and tools they need to improve their lives, job opportunities, and engagement in our community.
Through a gift to LEC, you can take part in each person’s success too. Gifts — for any amount —- strengthen our community and workforce, break the cycle of illiteracy, and remove educational barriers that prevent low-literate adults from achieving economic stability, gaining access to information, and participating more fully in life. Gifts to YLI are an investment in each other and the whole York community.
Now through December 31, be part of our collective effort with a gift to the LEC. Help adults gain literacy skills — until every adult in York County can read, write, and develop conversational skills that change their life.
York Literacy Institute is proud to have Frank E. Dittenhafer II as this year’s Literacy Empowerment Campaign honorary chair. Frank, architect and owner of Murphy and Dittenhafer Architects, has been a long-time supporter of YLI and York.
“If members of our York Community are to stabilize, improve and sustain their quality of life, literacy is not optional. York Literacy Institute is a critical conduit to providing individuals with foundational literacy skills — to achieve personal empowerment and economic success. YLI services now include digital, financial, technology and communication instruction.
It is my privilege to serve as the Honorary Chair for the 2025 Literacy Empowerment Campaign. I am not a fundraising specialist nor financial guru; but as an Architect, I problem solve and design solutions. I am asking you to join me to “solve the literacy problem” in York County. Make a contribution to this year’s campaign — and directly impact the path of someone’s life.”
