Celebrate Success: An Evening of Recognition and Gratitude

Our CELEBRATE SUCCESS event on December 3 at the Outdoor Country Club in York was a memorable evening that brought together individuals who appreciate the importance of adult learning from various perspectives. Over 100 attendees, including supporters, students, volunteers, board members, and staff, gathered in a lively and spirited atmosphere.

The program began with a welcome from our President and CEO, Jason McSherry. Jason shared a few highlights from the past year and expressed appreciation for everyone involved. Following him, Martin Fedorko, our Board Chair, conveyed our gratitude to outgoing Board Member Dr. Rona Kaufmann for her six years of dedicated service. He also introduced the new board members, Renae Morgan and Chayanne Propst.

Alexis Stegemann was announced as the Bea Blatner Volunteer of the Year Award winner for her commitment to York Literacy Institute (YLI) since 2016. Alexis shared heartfelt stories of her students over the years and reflected on how much the experiences have enriched her life.

Joseph Crosswhite was acknowledged for his leadership as last year’s LEC Chair, which significantly contributed to raising awareness and funds during the campaign.

A highlight of the event was Carmelle Dessalines Leary, a former YLI student, whose powerful testimony illustrated the impact of YLI’s support. The event concluded with a cap and gown ceremony to recognize students who recently passed their high school equivalency exams, allowing friends and family to celebrate this significant achievement.

Overall, the Celebrate Success event was an uplifting evening which recognized the dedication of everyone involved in YLI’s mission, celebrated our shared successes and inspired attendees for the year ahead.
