On Saturday, October 18, York Literacy Institute hosted its highly anticipated “Heroes and Villains: SUPER POWERED” event at MarketView Arts in downtown York. Presented by WellSpan Health, the evening brought together community members for a celebration of creativity, camaraderie, and support for literacy.
Guests arrived in dazzling costumes, transforming the venue into a vibrant showcase of heroes, villains, and imaginative characters. The highlight of the night was the spirited costume contest, where $100 prizes were awarded to the best Hero and Villain ensembles.
Beyond the costumes, attendees enjoyed a wide array of immersive experiences. Gingerbabies provided all-inclusive catering, complemented by a selection of craft adult beverages. Entertainment included whimsical caricatures by the talented Rafael D’Arcangelo, photo keepsakes from SnapShot Photobooth, and roving character appearances by Scarlet Witch, Thor, and Loki—courtesy of The Enchanted Teapot.
Adding a mystical touch, tarot card readings by Gillian Pearl intrigued guests, while Soundmasters Entertainment kept the energy high with a dynamic music set. A silent auction featured themed packages and exclusive experiences, further supporting the Institute’s mission to empower literacy in York.
As York’s premier Halloween-themed fundraiser, “Heroes and Villains: SUPER POWERED” continues to grow in popularity and impact. Planning is already underway for next year’s event, promising even more enchantment and community engagement.
